This venture capital firm’s investments range from startups to companies nearing an IPO. Our client anticipated continued  growth, and planned to invest up to $300M over a two to three year window. They needed to hire a rising star to oversee the company’s long-term pipeline of investments in the digital healthcare space.

CHALLENGE


Our client had earned a sterling reputation in a diversified set of tech verticals, but lacked the subject matter expertise needed to facilitate expanded investments in digital health. The right candidate needed to be a true “industry operator,” a leader who understood the nuanced opportunities and risks associated with this unique corner of the market.  They initially sought a PhD-MBA from a top-tier school with experience working in VC. Their usual recruiting channels, however, were failing to turn up suitable candidates.

SOLUTION

Our research revealed that other VCs didn’t necessarily hire and develop leaders with both MBAs and PhDs in digital health and biotech, which is why the client struggled to find candidates on their own.  We expanded our search to industries with parallel needs for broad business and healthcare acumen, targeting big pharma and biotech firms who maintained a venture capital arm.

RESULT

Our client hired the first individual presented by HighFive, providing rapid resolution to a search that had previously stagnated over a 16 month timeline. This hire has proved highly successful, and has already been promoted multiple times to Managing Director
